Is Your Age Being Divulged?
- Posted on: Jul 30 2017
We women are not too fond of having to divulge our secrets. Historically, age has been one of those little details that we prefer to keep to ourselves. Today, we are seeing almost as many men as women take measures to maintain an appearance of youth. Of course, we all know that it’s not possible to look 25 when you’re approaching 60; but we do know there are ways to keep the clock ten to fifteen years behind the number of candles on our birthday cake.
Are you trying to manage your clock? If you are, make sure your age is not being given away by one of these body parts:
- Your brows. Signs of aging on the face are typically lines and wrinkles. We address these with dermal fillers, with good skin care, and with neuromodulators like Botox. That may not be enough. Sagging brows also create an aged appearance. When the brow line falls, we might start to look less friendly or less energetic. Botox is an efficient method of lifting the brow line, so it sits right along the orbital rim.
- Your hands. The backs of the hands change quite a bit around middle age. Like the mid-face, the hands lose volume. The loss of fat pads beneath the skin allows tendons and veins to become more prominent in their appearance. Over time, these structures may start to look ropy and thick. The hands need to be preserved with sunscreen, quality moisturizer and, when necessary, professional care. Dermal fillers such as Radiesse are excellent for hand rejuvenation.
- Your neck. The skin on the neck is susceptible to sun damage and collagen depletion. When the strong bands of collagen start to break down with age, the bands of the platysma muscle across the neck lose their integrity. The looseness of these bands creates lines and creases that coincide with thinning and a crepey appearance. The skin on the neck may be improved with laser or light treatments, with Botox, or with a multidimensional approach tailored to your needs.
