Want All-Around Better Skin? Look to the Light!

IPL | Laser & Mohs DermatologyWhen we think about making the skin look better, younger, healthier, thoughts of laser treatments or injectables, or even cosmetic surgery may come to mind. What patients of our midtown Manhattan dermatology practice don’t often think about is how light therapy can mitigate several of the concerns they have related to their skin. We want to give some special attention to the innovative Intense Pulsed Light treatment used in our office, the Lumenis M22 IPL laser.

The value of IPL
Laser and light treatments stand out for one primary reason: they pull double, or triple, duty! The Lumenis IPL laser is no different. Using gentle wavelengths of light, this treatment addresses numerous dermatologic conditions simultaneously. They may be cosmetic in nature, or they may be chronic skin conditions, like rosacea, but one thing is certain, these conditions dissipate when affected with light.

Some of the common conditions that improve with Lumenis M22 IPL treatments include:

  • Freckles
  • Sun damage and age spots on the face, chest, or hands
  • Rosacea
  • Birthmarks
  • Broken capillaries

What stands out with this Lumenis platform is that there are multiple modalities that may be used. In addition to Intense Pulsed Light, the device also has a ResurFX and Nd: YAG mode. This means that, while the M22 treatment can minimize issues with pigmentation, it is also capable of restoring a more youthful appearance to the skin by improving elastic and texture.

One of the reasons that we have elected to offer the M22 IPL is because there is no downtime after treatment. We realize just how busy most of our patients are. They do not have time to sit in the office for hours, nor is it convenient to schedule time off from their daily routine to nurse swelling or redness. With the M22, neither of those common side effects are common at all.

Skin ages. There is no way around that. However, you can arm yourself with good habits, with information, and with professional care from your board-certified dermatologist. We pride ourselves on staying abreast of the latest developments in aesthetic dermatology so we may bring the best treatments to our NYC patients.
