Three Steps to Maximum Impact for Beautiful Skin

Three Steps to Maximum Impact for Beautiful Skin | Laser and Mohs Dermatology of New York | New York, NYWe often think about how to address dermatologic issues with specific treatments. Botox is a normal part of many people’s anti-aging routine. Laser and light therapies may be used to minimize aging, and to promote clearer, healthier skin. A fair amount of effort also tends to go into the daily care of the skin. The thing is, if you’re missing certain key steps, you may be getting minimal return on your investment into skin care. Here are a few things you can do to level-up.

Focus on the Cellular

There are two ways in which skin cells can get the attention they need:

  • A healthy diet is integral to dermatologic health and also to the aging process. The first place that changes in general health may be revealed is on the skin. By the same token, consuming abundant amounts of phytonutrients (fresh fruits and vegetables) feeds the skin – and the entire body – at the cellular level.
  • Skin cells are cyclical, they generate, live, and die off. When they reach their end, these cells are supposed to fall away from the body. The problem is, they don’t always do this. Most people have a significant layer of dead and damaged cells sitting on the surface, just waiting for someone to remove them. Now and then, deep exfoliation with a chemical peel is needed.

Focus on the Topic at Hand

Topical solutions are where we tend to spend most of our time when thinking about how to support the skin. Two key points of interest that you need to know are:

  • Ingredients are an important topic. Check ingredient lists for nourishing compounds such as retinoids, vitamin C, and glycolic acid. Any one of these ingredients is beneficial. Another aspect of ingredients that affects results is concentration. Medical skincare is far more potent than even the most expensive over-the-counter cleanser, moisturizer, or specialty product.
  • Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! Can we say this enough? The season has changed and, along with that, many people have put away the sunscreen until next season. Don’t do this. Sunscreen is crucial to healthy, vital skin and is the best way to minimize UV damage that leads to premature aging and skin cancer.
