What TotalFX Can Do for Your Skin

We all know that our skin will change over time. The question is what can we do about it? There are several ways to manage aging skin and manage it well. In recent years, laser skin resurfacing has emerged as an outstanding advancement in aesthetic medicine. We are proud to offer laser skin resurfacing in our Manhattan office. TotalFX allows us to address a variety of issues at once. With this laser device, we can simultaneously improve concerns including mild to moderate lines and creases, irregular texture, acne scarring and other scars, sun damage, and fine lines.

What is TotalFX?

This treatment involves fractional resurfacing in which high-energy light interacts with micro-zones of skin. Small pinpoints of the uppermost layer of tissue peel or flake off after treatment, leading to smoother, brighter skin. The laser energy also permeates the deeper layers of the skin, stimulating collagen production for enhanced healing. Because energy is applied in a fractional pattern across the skin, bridges of untouched tissue remain. These bridges facilitate faster recovery and fewer side effects.

Benefits of TotalFX Laser Treatment

TotalFX is not your standard CO2 laser skin resurfacing treatment. The inclusion of fractional technology makes this procedure efficient but also conservative. Patients can achieve remarkable results after just one treatment, though the procedure may be repeated to address more significant scars or other concerns. Due to the way that laser beams affect the skin, patients can turn to TotalFX for issues such as:

  • Acne scarring
  • Tissue deflation due to collagen loss
  • Irregular tone and texture
  • Mild to moderate lines and wrinkles
  • Moderately loose skin

Laser Treatment May Not Be What You Imagine

There is a misconception that laser skin resurfacing peels off multiple surface layers of the skin. Older methods of resurfacing were more ablative and required several days of downtime, if not weeks, during which the skin would peel and ooze and crust. This is not what modern laser resurfacing looks like. A TotalFX treatment is performed using a topical anesthetic. The procedure takes less than an hour. After treatment, patients can wash and moisturize with gentle products and can usually wear makeup after a few days. Flaking and mild redness may occur for a few days but is usually resolved within one week.
