What Is Laser Acne Scar Treatment?

Laser acne scar removal is a procedure that dramatically improves the appearance of scars using our Fractional CO2 laser. This relatively painless treatment targets the deep layers of your skin and can dramatically improve your acne scars in a single treatment. With the CO2 laser, only a fraction of the skin is treated, leaving bridges of untouched skin that aid in the healing process and keeps downtime at a minimum.

What are the Benefits of Acne Scar Treatments?

With the laser treatment, the redness and swelling of overactive scars were reduced significantly, along with the pain and sensitivity typically seen with larger scars. After treatment, scars become noticeably less visible, lighter in color, smoother, and softer.

Am I A Good Candidate For Acne Scar Laser Treatment

Laser acne scar removal is not suitable for everyone. If you have underlying skin disorders such as psoriasis or cystic acne, lasers scar removal may not be the ideal process for you. A comprehensive consultation with Dr. Quintana is important in determining whether this procedure is right for you or not. Alternative cosmetic and medical treatments are available for patients who wish to remove or cover up scars. We require an expert recommendation before taking the next steps.

When Is A Good Time To Receive Treatment For Acne Scars?

The acne scar should be fully healed before you consider having the skin treated, so we recommend that you wait at least six months. This allows the scar to fully mature and may alleviate the need for corrective treatments in the future should the scar continue to change.

How The Laser Acne Scar Treatment Works

Acne Scar Treatment NYC | Acne Scar Removal Manhattan NY

Acne scar removal treatment works by resurfacing the skin that is affected by the scar. For this procedure, we use a handpiece to deliver short bursts of laser energy into the scar tissue. The CO2 laser produces a specific intensity of light that will be able to penetrate the skin and the scar tissue and target the new tissue underneath. The lasers act by exerting a dual action on the internal structure of the scar. As the laser light comes in contact with the blood vessels inside the scar, these vessels are sealed, effectively cutting off the blood supply of the scar.

At the same time, the heat coming from the laser changes the morphology of the collagen cells inside the scar. The combined result of these two mechanisms is a softer, less sensitive scar that will now appear to be more like normal skin.

What Does an Acne Scar Laser Treatment Feel Like?

You may feel a slight sensation each time the laser is applied, and most patients can remain comfortable during the treatment. The number of treatments to achieve the desired results will depend upon the age, the position of the scar, as well as the amount of scar tissue present.

What Results Can I Expect from Acne Scar Laser Treatments?

Having realistic expectations of your acne scar removal treatment ensures that you love the results of the procedure. The goal of laser acne scar treatments is to closely match the scar to the surrounding skin. This can be achieved to varying degrees based upon not only the location but the characteristics, and size of the scar. Dr. Adelle Quintana explains the expected results of your scar removal procedure during the consultation.

Will The Scar Be Completely Removed After Treatment?

Even after laser acne scar treatment, we cannot completely remove the scar tissue. However, this procedure can make the scar fade enough so that it is hardly visible without close inspection. More aggressive approaches to scar removal may result in the aggravation of the scarring and produce more undesirable results.

Laser Acne Scar Treatment Cost In NYC

The cost of laser acne scar removal is based upon the type of scar, and this varies by patient. We evaluate your scar at the time of the consultation, and we can then provide cost information.
