4 Ways to Get and Keep Your Skin on Track

The skin is susceptible to so many offenses. It is virtually unprotected from environmental factors and is certainly affected by what happens beneath its surface. Historically, we have learned how to manage only the very basics of skin care, cleansing and moisturizing. With just a little extra effort, though, we have the power to postpone the onset of aging and quickly address the signs of aging when they do occur. Here, we offer a few suggestions for both.

  1. Platelet Rich Plasma

Platelet-rich plasma, known simply as PRP, is an organic substance that is in the blood. We obtain it by drawing blood from the arm and then spinning that blood in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from red blood cells. The purpose of using PRP on the skin is to accelerate tissue regeneration. This is possible because PRP contains many growth factors necessary for tissue repair. Common ways to use PRP include microneedling and injections into deeper layers of the skin.

  1. Address Contributing Factors to Aging

We age for several reasons. One is that the body accumulates too many free radicals. These molecules can be beneficial for the immune system. However, on overload, they overwhelm the body with oxidative stress. Consuming antioxidants in foods or supplements is one of the primary ways to keep free radicals in check and thereby protect the skin from premature aging.

  1. Botox

Botox often gets praised for its corrective powers. Millions of adults receive Botox injections every year to minimize the appearance of frown lines, worry lines, crow’s feet, and horizontal lines on the neck. Recently, younger adults have realized that Botox can also be used preventively. In smaller doses, this FDA-approved drug softens muscle contractions to postpone the permanence of dynamic lines.

  1. Fractional Laser Resurfacing

The skin often needs help shedding old and dead skin cells and replacing them with healthy, new cells. When the body is affected by oxidative stress and chemical changes, the new cells that are produced aren’t as vibrant as they should be. Laser resurfacing sloughs of damaged cells and provokes a healing response in which tissue regeneration is enhanced by reparative processes that include an influx of collagen into the dermis and epidermis.
